What happened – Indonesia down Thailand 5-2
An absolutely crazy outcome during men’s football final at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games – that eventually got ugly – has ultimately resulted in Indonesia winning the gold medal with a 5-2 extra-time victory over.
Indonesia scored two first-half goals with Ramadhan Sananta’s double but Thailand halved the deficit when Anan Yodsangwal headed in a 65th minute corner and then dramatically pulled level deep into stoppage time through Yotsakorn.
Chaos broke out
Things got heated when Anan’s teammates celebrated his equalizer that must have provoked the Indonesia’s bench.
Then, Jauhari put Indonesia back in front when he deftly lifted the ball over Soponwit before a bench-clearing brawl on the touchline raised tensions further.
Seven men got sent of, including staff and Soponwit and Indonesia’s Komang Teguh for their involvement in the altercation while the Thais were reduced to nine men in the 101st minute when defender Jonathan Khemdee received a second yellow card.
Rahman hit his side’s fourth two minutes into the second period of extra time and Putra put the result beyond all doubt in the final minute to earn Indonesia gold for the fourth time and the first since 1991.
